Tripoli Peace Initiative: Safeguarding Stability in Lebanon (IOM–The United Nations Peace Building Fund– PBF)

The PBF-funded project ‘Tripoli peace Initiative: Safeguarding Stability in Lebanon” is implemented by three UN agencies - International Organization for Migration (IOM), United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) in collaboration with Tripoli Municipality. Under the project, IOM in partnership with SHiFT – Social Innovation Hub, aims to strengthen social stability in ten vulnerable communities in Tripoli by addressing entrenched marginalization, weakened trust in institutions, and persistent sectarian and socio-economic tensions. Through an inclusive, participatory approach, community residents—particularly youth and women— have collectively identified local priorities, and are mobilizing resources to implement community-led initiatives that respond to root causes of conflict. Central to the project is the establishment and capacitation of ten community committees that lead Community-Based Planning processes, engage Tripoli Municipality and UN partners, and launch transparent crowdfunding campaigns to reach Tripoli supporters both Tripoli residents and Tripoli diaspora. The project rebuilds trust between communities and local authorities while ensuring sustainability through community ownership, institutional integration, and long-term fundraising systems that extend impact beyond the project’s lifetime.

FAQs

The Community Co-Funding System (CFS) is a community-led fundraising initiative under the Tripoli Peace Initiative. It enables individuals, the Lebanese diaspora, and other supporters to contribute directly to projects identified and prioritized by communities in Tripoli. By encouraging communities to mobilize support for their own priorities, the CFS promotes local ownership, strengthens community leadership, and contributes to the sustainability of community-driven initiatives.

Community members from 10 neighborhoods in Tripoli City came together in a Community-Based Planning workshop to identify and select priorities for their areas. The participants represented diverse backgrounds, including women and men, youth, and persons with disabilities.

These priorities were then further reviewed and narrowed down to select the listed community projects. The selection was based on their potential to contribute to social stability, promote gender equality, encourage youth leadership, and their operational feasibility.

You can contribute any amount of your choice through:

  • GlobalGiving — for international or local donations
  • WHISH 81578650 for local contributions.

If you choose to donate through WHISH, please indicate in the note section which community project you would like to support. Any WHISH donation that does not specify a project or community name will be distributed equally among all listed community projects under the Co-Funding System of the Tripoli Peace Initiative.

Your contribution will directly support the implementation of these community projects.

In addition, your donation will help unlock an IOM top-up contribution once the project reaches its predetermined fundraising target. This means that your contribution will have an even greater impact on the community.

Your donation will not be used to cover IOM or SHiFT operational costs, such as salaries or office expenses. These costs are already covered through the Peacebuilding Fund (PBF) project. As a result, your contribution will be used exclusively to support the implementation of community projects.

We are committed to ensuring that every dollar you contribute reaches and benefits these communities.

You can visit this website to view the updated amount of donations received for each project, as well as the final amount raised once the campaign closes.

You can also follow the implementation progress of each project, which will be featured and updated weekly on this website.
