PEACE INITIATIVE

The residents of Zahriyeh are launching a community campaign to support the rehabilitation of the main street in the area.  The historic streets are currently affected by deteriorated sidewalks, damaged building façades, and weak lighting, which negatively impact pedestrian safety, limit social and economic activity, and threaten the neighborhood’s heritage identity. This project aims to improve safety, strengthen shared community identity, and encourage inclusive use of public spaces. In addition, it will aim at improving infrastructure and the urban landscape, enhance public safety, support local economic activity, and preserve Zahriyeh’s cultural and historical character, reflecting a strong spirit of community cooperation and reinforcing local stability and belonging through a locally led initiative. 

Within the framework of the Tripoli Peace Initiative: Safeguarding Stability in Lebanon, a community-led campaign is supporting the provision of a specialized vacuum truck for the Municipality of Tripoli to clean and maintain the city’s sewage network. This initiative responds to recurring sewage blockages and overflows that threaten public health, damage homes and infrastructure, and disrupt daily life. By strengthening the municipality’s emergency response capacity, the project aims to improve sanitation services, reduce environmental and health risks, and enhance the quality of life for thousands of residents. 

The residents of Abo Samra are launching a community campaign to support the rehabilitation of Al Hallab (Al Manar) public park in the area. This comes in response to the lack of maintenance and basic facilities in existing parks, which limits residents’ access to recreational spaces and increases pressure on already scarce public areas in a densely populated neighborhood. The project aims to restore and upgrade the park to provide a safe and well-equipped space for children, youth, and families, enabling healthy recreation and social interaction, and contributing to improved quality of life, as well as stronger social cohesion and local stability within the community. 

The residents of Jabal Mohsen are launching a community campaign to support the establishment of a municipal sports field that provides a safe and equipped space for sports and recreational activities, particularly for children and youth, in light of the lack of adequate public facilities in the area. The project aims to create an enabling environment for positive interaction, skills development, and healthy outlets for energy, helping to reduce negative behaviors associated with idle time, while promoting physical and mental well-being, strengthening social cohesion, and enhancing local stability through a shared space that fosters community engagement and a sense of belonging. 

 The residents of Al Quobbe are launching a community campaign to support the rehabilitation of the façade of the new Al Quobbe Kindergarten, the installation of solar-powered lighting, and the creation of a dedicated playground for children. This initiative responds to the damage sustained by the kindergarten’s external structure due to conflict, as well as the lack of adequate public lighting and safe, suitable spaces for children. The project aims to improve the surrounding environment, enhance safety and security, provide a recreational and developmental space for children, and strengthen positive interaction and social cohesion within the local community, contributing to restoring life and hope in the area through a locally led initiative driven by community members themselves. 

The residents of Al-Tebbaneh are launching a community campaign to support the rehabilitation of Al-Tebbaneh Garden, in response to the deterioration of the area and the growing health and environmental risks affecting the community. The project aims to rehabilitate the park to provide a safe space for children and youth, promote sports and social activities in the area, and contribute to improving residents’ quality of life, while strengthening social cohesion and community stability through a locally led initiative driven by the residents themselves. 

The residents of Al-Tal are launching a community campaign to support the project of highlighting heritage buildings in the commercial downtown area. These buildings currently suffer from neglect, weak lighting, and visual deterioration, which has led to a decline in their cultural and aesthetic presence in the urban landscape, reduced safety perceptions at night, and weakened tourism and commercial attraction. The project aims to improve lighting and enhance the visibility of the architectural heritage, strengthening local identity, revitalizing economic activity, and restoring the cultural and commercial role of the area, while contributing to greater social cohesion and urban stability in the heart of the city. 

The residents of Al-Nouri and Al-Hadid are launching a community campaign to support the rehabilitation and organization of the market. The markets, despite their significant historical and architectural value, are experiencing urban deterioration, which has reduced their attractiveness and negatively affected visitor flow, traders’ activity, and overall use of the space. The project aims to improve and enhance the overall appearance of the market, strengthen its heritage character, revitalize economic activity, increase the area’s attractiveness, and contribute to improving the urban landscape while supporting social cohesion and vibrancy in the neighborhood. 

The residents of Al Swayka are launching a community campaign to support the installation of solar-powered lighting on the stairs responding to the lack of adequate lighting in the area. The project aims to improve infrastructure and enhance public safety by introducing a modern solar lighting that increases visibility, reduces accidents, and strengthens residents’ sense of security, thereby contributing to improved quality of life and greater community stability. 

The residents of Al Haddadin are launching a community campaign to support the rehabilitation of the rainwater drainage network on the stairs. This project aims to address the accumulation of rainwater caused by the deterioration or inefficiency of the drainage system, which leads to pedestrian slips and flooding in nearby homes and shops, resulting in property damage, threats to public safety, and a decline in the daily quality of life for residents and traders. The project seeks to improve infrastructure, enhance safety, and reduce rain-related damage, contributing to a safer and more stable environment while strengthening social cohesion through a locally led community initiative. 

The residents of Abo Samra are launching a community campaign to address the issue of stray dogs, which are widespread in the area and pose health and safety risks to residents, particularly children and the elderly, while also restricting the safe use of public spaces. This intervention aims to create a safer and healthier environment with better-equipped public spaces, thereby strengthening social cohesion and improving overall quality of life and local stability within the community.
